Event Preview: Capacity Entry for Shelsley Walsh Finale
Shelsley Walsh Hill Climb hosts two days of club action with a full entry list as its final competitive events of the season this weekend (16/17 Sept), appropriately called Autumn Speed Finale.
With several championships still to be decided a wide range of sports, classics, saloons and racing cars will take to the hill against the clock for practice each morning followed by timed competition runs in the afternoon in programme order with full commentary.
Invited clubs attending include the Midland Speed Championship, the Porsche Club Speed Championship with 18 cars in action and the Revington Sprint and Hill Climb Championship for Triumph cars, which includes Vitesse, TR6, Spitfire and Dolomite Sprint models.
It will be party time for competitors in the Paul Matty Sports Cars Lotus Championship as they always choose Shelsley Walsh to round off their busy season, hosting nine sports cars and 14 Lotus racing car examples, usually followed by presentation ceremonies in high spirits!
The Classic Marques Speed Challenge on Saturday will see a very diverse set of cars competing including an MG Midget, Sunbeam Tiger, E-Type Jaguar, Porsche 944, Ginetta G4, TVR Griffith, Marcos Mantis and Fiat X19.
A dozen Morgan cars will be competing in the MSCC Techniques Speed Championship on Sunday as well as 10 entrants in the Pirelli Ferrari Hill Climb Championship, driving Berlinetta, Modena, Dino and Spider examples.
The ever popular road going classes always attracts a large entry where a close fight can be expected in the Over 2000cc class between Andrew Collins and Roy Standley in Subaru and Mitsubishi 4WD cars, while Droitwich driver Dave West could be the man to catch in the Under 2000cc class in his Peugeot 106 Gti, shared with his son Nicholas.
The class for classic Sports Libre and pre-1975 Racing Cars is set against target times and local husband and wife MAC members Malcolm and Sarah Thorne, from Shelsley Kings, will be taking part with their Lotus 35 F2 and Lotus 61/69 Special racing cars.
The action starts at 9am each day and further information can be found at the Midland Automobile Club’s website at www.shelsleywalsh.com
