Bromyard Speed Festival on Tour to Shelsley Walsh
When Bromyard Speed Festival decided to run an event at Shelsley Walsh in the gap year between running in the streets of Bromyard, we didn’t know what to expect. We thought some Shelsley fans would turn up out of curiosity and it was hoped that the event would appeal to some of those who had enjoyed the street parades in 2016 and 2017. What happened was way beyond the organiser’s wildest expectations. We had hoped for 300-400 spectators, we had more like 1200-1500.
Drivers and spectators were thrilled with the feel of the event, the wide and eclectic range of vehicles on show, (fast becoming the DNA of BSF events), the efficiency of the organisation, the good food and drink available.
Drivers and passengers fell into a number of categories. Those who had never before visited Shelsley, those who knew the hill and those never to have driven at a competition venue. The more experienced drivers liked the atmosphere and family feel derived from the lack of competition in the event. The event opened with the Town Crier of Bromyard and attending Sponsors releasing the first car, Team Summers Lola T140.
Everyone drove as fast or as moderately as they chose at this untimed invitation event and there were no on track incidents. Best of all were the many visitors who enjoyed a fun event, in ideal weather and who had a great time.
Many thanks to the sponsors, organisers, volunteers and everyone who came along to drive, passenger or watch. The organisers said “We would be happy to add this event to our portfolio in the coming year. Thank you Shelsley Walsh.”
