We're open for all at Shelsley Walsh

Spectators will be allowed for the first time this season at Shelsley Walsh Hill Climb, near Worcester this weekend (12/13th SEP) when a wide range of cars will take to the track in earnest to race against the clock.

Event organisers Midland Automobile Club have been staging small events on a trial basis over the past couple of months, which have been hailed a great success, by ensuring social distancing throughout the venue where competitors and spectator members were kept separated, together with other measures to fully comply with current Covid-19 restrictions.

Club member and regular competitor Paul Jones, of Worcester, said: “It was strange to take part with no crowds at first, but the club really have gone to great lengths to enable drivers to actually compete at Shelsley Walsh at all this year and the event organisation, even under very strict guidelines, has been simply superb, so full credit must be given to the MAC.”

Around 100 cars will be competing on Saturday with different classes for sports cars, classics, saloons, Formula Ford and racing cars with reigning Midland Hill Climb Champion Robert Kenrick making a welcome return in his all-conquering GWR Raptor single-seater racing car. However, Best Time of Day could well go to Tenbury Wells driver Alex Summers, British Champion in 2015, with his new and hugely powerful DJ Firestorm racing car.

Sunday will see the ever-popular Paul Matty Sports Cars Lotus Championship class with 18 sports and racing versions competing on a handicap basis while another well supported class is the BOC New Barn Speed Championship which sees an eclectic mix of entries ranging from Sunbeam Alpine, MG ZR, Gilbern GT, Caterham 7, Toyota MR2 and Porsche 944 through to Lotus Elan and Elise models.
