Retirement of Dave Nursey as Senior Clerk of the Course

After over a dozen years as Senior Clerk of the Course Dave Nursey has decided to step down from the role bringing to a close his involvement in running events at Shelsley Walsh which spans over five decades.

Under Dave’s guidance, competition events at Shelsley have always been regarded as highly professionally run meetings with his ability to build relationships with competitors, officials and marshals at the core of that success. Behind the scenes he has also been one of the driving forces in keeping Shelsley Walsh fit for modern day use with countless volunteer hours spent liaising with Motorsport UK in addition to lending his hand to the physical aspect of readying the hill for use. Dave’s influence, experience and passion for Shelsley is going to be hugely missed. The club must now rise to the challenge of filling the void left by him and ensuring that it remains a professional and respected event operator.

Many will associate Dave with the Clerk’s role at Shelsley, however this is only the tip of the iceberg of his involvement as he has been pivotal in some of the club’s most successful ventures away from Shelsley in developing sprint meetings at venues such as Cornbury Park, Blyton Park, MIRA, Anglesey and Llandow. In the early 90’s he was one of a small team of members who reintroduced the MAC to operating circuit racing events with the Pembrey weekends being hugely successful for a number of years and it is this creative spirit that the club must replace to continue moving forward.

Dave has also taken the decision to stepdown from being a director of the club, a role he has performed several times most recently from 2019.

I’d like to place on record the club’s appreciation of Dave’s effort and commitment over many years and I’m pleased to be able to confirm he will remain involved in the capacity of Vice President; a role he has ably fulfilled for some years.

I also look forward to seeing Dave at Shelsley Walsh over the summer months continuing to drive, mechanic and help with fellow friends in the paddock.

Chairman
