St Andrew’s Challenge
The new club based day took place on May 23 as St Andrew’s Challenge with Alex Summers spreading up the hill with his DJ Firestorm to a stunning 23.61 second time. Sporting it’s new livery, a new wiring loom and tweaks from when the car was last at Shelsley in August 2021, it was an ideal bedding-in day for 2015 British Hill Climb Champion Summers before the Jubilee Celebration Best of British weekend over June 4th and 5th with the fastest cars in the UK all vying for maximum points in the National title chase of 2022.
Summers hit 140mph over the finish line and 134mph on Ess Approach… Other stars of the day were Damien Bradley in his Subaru Legacy 4WD that took a new class record both times he took to the hill leaving the race spec Production car class mark at 29.10 seconds and Arnie Fleck in his road going 526hp Golf R 4WD to set 32.08 seconds after a quite stunning 2.11 second start for the first 64 feet. What set Arnie out to receive a huge amount of applause at the awards after the meeting was that after driving the hill during some MAC Members’ Days he decided to enter only this year into competition and ended up taking a class record! Simply superb stuff.
